Bride of the Month: Kristin Ajar

Here at Art Paper Scissors, we absolutely love bringing a couples’ wedding theme to life. From save-the-dates to invitations to thank you cards and everything in between, Art Paper Scissors is a couple's one-stop-shop for all things wedding stationery.

Today we are chatting with our August bride of the month, Kristin Ajar. Kristin and her husband Joseph tied the knot just a few months ago in March 2018 with an elegant reception at The Oyster Point Hotel. We loved designing their beautiful blush and gray watercolor invitations, with rose gold and calligraphic touches, perfect for their romantic and modern wedding day.

Kristin tells all about her wedding day, theme and plenty of advice - read on and enjoy these beautiful photos, captured by Krissy Breece Photography.

Art Paper Scissors: How do you remember that special day? Any great memory that stands out?

Kristin: The first look was definitely something that stood out for me. When we first got engaged, I never thought I would want to incorporate the first look into our wedding day. As soon as we started learning the timing of the ceremony, photos, and cocktail hour, we made the decision to do the first look so we were able to take photos earlier in the day and enjoy our cocktail hour. That was the best decision, since it really gives a special moment for you and your husband to relax and see each other before the chaos begins and you are pulled every which way! I was so nervous and anxious, but seeing Joe during the first look took all of the stress away.

Art Paper Scissors: What is your favorite part about being married?

Kristin: My favorite part of being married is getting to share a wonderful life with my husband Joe and our dog, Finn! We both have very tough work schedules and we do not get to see much of each other, so when we do have a day together, it is really great to cherish the time spent with each other!

Art Paper Scissors: Describe your wedding theme and feel in 3 words. Why did you choose this theme?

Kristin: Whimsical, clean, lively – I really wanted a soft and clean look for the wedding. I wanted all of our flowers overgrown and messy with a ton of greens – which our florist, Flowers by Melinda provided exactly what I had in mind. I chose the word lively because I wanted the crowd to be up and dancing the entire time. We love the Pat Roddy Band, and always see them at local bars with all of our friends. We were so excited when we were able to book them for our wedding, and our guests still can’t stop talking about how great the music was.

Art Paper Scissors: How did you decide on your gray, blush and rose gold watercolor wedding invitations?

Kristin: I have always been a fan of any shade of gray, and also love rose gold. My engagement ring and wedding band are rose gold, and felt it was special to tie that color into our wedding. I feel that the three colors really compliment each other, and Lisa was such a big help with mixing the three together to create the perfect save the dates and invites.

Art Paper Scissors: What design element or feature was a “must have” for your wedding invitations?

Kristin: I really wanted to add in the calligraphy font and a touch of rose gold. I am not really a “glitter person," but when Lisa showed me a thin, rose gold glitter ribbon, I knew it would be a beautiful finishing touch to the invites.

Art Paper Scissors: What advice do you have for other brides and grooms looking to incorporate their theme or personal elements into their wedding invitations?

Kristin: I would say definitely say to keep it simple and try to steer away from everything that you see on Pinterest. While planning, I really kept in mind to keep a personal twist on things, so your invites stand out from everyone else’s. The stationery is the first thing a guest sees that sets the tone for your big day. Do not go overboard with a ton of photos and writing, but make your sure special touch is incorporated into the design.
